Getting Ready For Hair Transplant Surgery

By Rich Fuller

Just like any other kind of surgical procedure there are several things that you need to do to get ready for hair transplant surgery. Do not confuse this with the less invasive procedures like laser hair transplant and such. They are nothing like the standard hair transplant surgery. This kind of procedure involves the actual cutting of the scalp area to transfer the hair in one place to another. So you will need to follow some simple instructions to ensure that you are not in any danger when it comes to this kind of medical procedure.

The first step is to let the doctor know any and all medications, both prescription and over the counter, that you are currently or have taken in the past three months. This is probably one of the most important parts of this instruction. The doctor will need to know if you are taking anything that could interfere with the medication that will be administered during the surgery. There is the possibility of a harmful interaction between different types of medications and only the doctor is qualified to make this determination. He/she may tell you to discontinue a certain medication prior to the surgery. Visit http://www.medicalhairtransplantation.org to learn more about hair transplants.

If you are taking blood thinners, for treatment of a stroke or heart condition then you will be required to cease taking them for about a week prior and during the surgery. The blood thinners will make you bleed in a big way and can cause danger during the surgery. This can include aspirin and other prescribed blood thinning medications. Your doctor will advise you of this procedure prior to the date of the surgery and will discuss the best course of action for you to take.

Make sure that you have a ride from the hospital after the surgery. There are times when the procedures will take about three hours and that means you will have at least that long in recovery. If the hair transplant surgery goes well you will go home the same day but you will be in no condition to drive. For this reason all people who undergo hair transplant surgery should be ready to have some to take them home following the procedure.

As with any hair transplant procedure you should ask all the right questions prior to the day that you undergo the procedure. This will help to give you peace of mind and know that you will not be surprised when the day arrives.

Taking care in the planning of the days leading up to and the day of the hair transplant surgery will ensure a smooth procedure for you and the doctors that are involved.
