The Best Permanent Hair Transplant Options

By David Faulkner

There are many very good permanent hair transplant options available to consider. Hair grafts, also called Follicular Micrografts, are a great option because they allow natural looking hair to grow once the individual has recovered from the surgery. The process allows the implanted hair to follow the pattern of your original hair. Each hair follicle grows in groups of up to four units. They hair transplant method is considered to be one of the best because it doesn't leave the individual with a contrasting look from the bare scalp to areas covered with thick hair.

Follicular Unit Extraction requires a donor strip of hair to be extracted from the body. The strip contains about a millimeter of hair that projects from the surface. It also contains microscopic blood vessels and actual hair follicles. The tissues in the follicular units are then dissected and sorted into units that are transplanted into a natural looking pattern. After the recovery period, these follicular units will grow naturally.

The doctor has to make small incisions in the scalp so that the implants will last a very long time. The doctor has to regenerate a natural hair line that is consistent with the facial structure of the individual. Large grafts are placed on the back of the scalp as a person has hair that is very dense in this area. Smaller units are used on the hair line along the front of the scalp. Each hair is carefully inserted so that it will grow in the right direction. Another procedure that works well is Mini-Micro Grafting where the follicular hair graft units are made up of only a few hairs. This is commonly used only as a method of replacing previously transplanted hairs in very dense parts of the hair line.

Punch Grafts were introduced in the 1980's but the use of them has declined due to the introduction of newer technology in this area. This particular process involves taking circular pieces of donor hair and then inserting it into the areas of the scalp where hair is missing. It is a very reliable method of permanent hair transplanting. It is commonly used as a combination with another type of hair transplanting. It does take time for the hair to grow from the transplanted area though.

Slit Grafts contain as many as ten follicles that are placed in specific areas along the scalp. They are blended into areas where the hair tends to grow thick. They are inserted from the middle to the back of the scalp with the majority of them being placed at the crown. Strip Grafts are the largest sized hair grafts. They contain up to forty hair follicles. They are commonly used along side Slit Grafts to give the individual a very full and natural looking head of hair.
