Rhinoplasty, commonly known as "nose job", is a plastic surgery of the nose. The nose surgery is made in order to improve the function or appearance of the patient's nose. The surgery exists for years; the first Rhinoplasty was made in 1887.
The nose can be defected from birth or from a bruise; the defect can cause breathing problems and also affect the person's self-esteem. Rhinoplasty is made to correct breathing problems or to have aesthetic improvements. It is important to shape the nose so it will combine naturally with the rest of the face.
Rhinoplasty can be performed to: correct broken or crooked nose, making the nose bigger or smaller, shorten long nose, change the angle with the upper lip, delicate the nose, change the size or shape of the nostrils, and more.

The surgery is made through the nostrils; therefore the surgery area can not be seen. That is why it is very important to have an experienced, skilled surgeon with good reputation.

The Earliest Age for Nose Job Plastic Surgery

The nose keeps developing until the age of 16, after that age it is possible to have the surgery. Older people are more difficult to operate because their skin is less flexible therefore harder to design.

Nose Job Plastic Surgery Procedure:

The surgery takes about 1 hour, after the surgery the patient has to stay for a few hours in recovery room for observation. There is a recovery period in which the patient is not allowed to do any sports and need to rest, usually this period last for a few weeks. The Rhinoplasty is performed under a general anesthetic or with local anesthetic; it is a decision of the surgeon and the patient. The surgery is made through the nostrils so the scar won't be seen; also the stitches that are being used are usually made of perishable substance so there is no need to take them out. After the surgery the nose is put in a cast for 7-10 days. The patient gets some pills to help the pain and can get back to do some mild activities after about two days. For about 2 weeks after the surgery there will be some hemorrhages on the nose and around the eyes. The nose will be swollen for about 3 weeks after the surgery and will get to the final awaited result after a year.

Risks of Rhinoplasty:

There are general risks like in every surgery, such as: infections and bleedings. Most surgeries are successful and with no complications. Some times there is a very small correction that is needed; the correction will be performed minimum 6 month after the surgery.

Tip for Rhinoplasty:

  • Go only to certified places that have good reputation and long experience.
  • Get as much information as you can about how to be prepared to the surgery and what to do after.
  • Meet the surgeon before the surgery so he can explain the whole procedure to you and see if you are compatible.
  • Know and be prepared that you won't be able to get back to normal everyday life right after the surgery; you will have to have a recovery period.
  • If your nose bleeds after the surgery, don't lie down on your back, sit down and tilt your head a bit forward, use a towel to saturate the blood. If the bleeding doesn't stop, turn to your doctor.
  • Try not to blow your nose 2-3 weeks after the cast was removed.
  • Don't do any sports at least for first few weeks after the surgery.
  • Try not to be over exposed to the sun for about 3 month.
