Implants for breast enlargement and breast shaping have been used since 1895.
The breast augmentation is made by inserting an implant, which is a prostate, into the breast in order to increase the size of the breast.
Breast Augmentation - cosmetic surgery and clinical surgery:
- Cosmetic- people like to make their breasts bigger because they think it will make them look better or more popular.
- Sex reassignment surgery- when a male wants to become a female and would like to have bigger breasts as a part of his sex change operation.
- Breast reconstruction- such as after mastectomy.
- Abnormality- flaw in shape or size that needs correction.

The Implants: |
- Saline, which is an implant made of silicone shell filled with saline.
- Silicon, which is a silicon shell implant filled with silicon gel.

The Incisions: |
There are 3 incision sites that are available:
Underarm (Trans Axillary), breasts fold (Infra mammary), and around the areola of the nipple (Peri areolar).
There are 2 more sites which are not recommended by most clinics and are less common: The umbilical (Trans umbilical) and the abdomen (Trans abdominoplasty).

Tips for Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery: |
- Choose a well known clinic with good reputation.
- Collect as much information as you can on: The procedure, the clinic, and the surgeon.
- You must go for consultation before you have the breasts augmentation procedure to make sure it suits you. When you talk to the doctor make sure you give him all your health information.
- Although rare, know that breast enlargement surgery might cause some problems with breastfeeding.
- Breast implants do not last a lifetime, therefore there will be another surgery to replace or remove the implants.
- There might be ruptures in the implant, which are hard to detect, therefore the FDA determined that MRI test has to be made. The FDA recommends an MRI test 3 years after implantation and then every 2 years thereafter.
- You have to be over 17 to have the surgery, because that is the age when the breasts stop growing.
- Make sure the implants you choose with the doctor have the right proportion to your body.
- When touching the new breast it will feel almost like a natural breast.
